The Commercial Appeal New hotel starts rising this month Wednesday, May 7, 2008 Construction begins May 19 on a four-story, 127-room Hyatt Place hotel at the southeast corner of Winchester and Forest Hill Irene. In a rough grass field near the 10-acre site, company and government staged a groundbreaking Tuesday for a project that will cost more than $20 million, said Marvin Bolinger, chief operating officer for Silver Companies, the Washington- and Florida-based developer. The MMI Hotel Group based in Flowood, Miss., will manage the hotel and Montgomery Martin, based in Memphis, is the general contractor for construction estimated to be finished by the summer of 2009. Larry Silver, chief executive of Silver Companies, said more announcements will be made soon about other businesses bound for the site. Restaurants and an extended-stay hotel are being mulled, Bolinger said. Germantown Mayor Sharon Goldsworthy praised the new addition to the Forest Hill Heights Corporate Park as "icing on a cake." --Kevin McKenzie Back to News Listing |
